Source: https://docs.lincal.app/getting-started/what-is-lincal Learn what LinCal is and how it helps you plan Linear issues on a calendar. It helps you plan and reschedule issues faster by showing due-dated work in a weekly calendar layout. Instead of switching between list views and issue details, you can manage work directly on the calendar. ## What you can do with LinCal * See your Linear issues by due date * Filter by team, project, state, assignee, labels, and cycles * Drag and drop tasks to reschedule instantly * Create new tasks directly from a day cell * Update task properties and status from task cards * Share your current calendar view with teammates ## How LinCal works with Linear LinCal is built on top of Linear data. When you create, edit, move, or update tasks in LinCal, those changes sync back to Linear. # Welcome to LinCal Source: https://docs.lincal.app/index The calendar interface for Linear — see your issues, reschedule by drag & drop, and stay on top of deadlines. LinCal brings your Linear issues into a visual, scrolling calendar. See your team's work laid out by due date, drag tasks to reschedule them, and share filtered views with anyone all without leaving your workflow. ## Next steps Learn the core concepts and how LinCal fits into your planning workflow. Connect your workspace to start syncing issues into your calendar. # Calendar View Source: https://docs.lincal.app/using-lincal/calendar-view Use LinCal’s calendar in month or week view, switch views from Display or the keyboard, and move through time with shortcuts. LinCal shows your Linear issues by due date on a calendar. You can use **month view** for a dense overview or **week view** for larger cards and more detail per task. ## Calendar layout LinCal calendar view screenshot ## Month view Month view stacks calendar **rows vertically** so you can scan many weeks at once. * **Scroll** (or trackpad) to move **up and down** through the calendar. * Each day shows up to **four** issues directly. If there are more, use **“x more”** to open the full list for that day. * The header’s **month label** updates as you move through the calendar. ## Week view LinCal calendar view screenshot Week view shows **one week at a time** in a wide layout. * **Scroll horizontally** (or use the toolbar arrows) to move to the previous or next week. * **All** issues for a day are listed in the column—there is no four-issue cap. * Task cards are **taller** and show **more information in text** where month view uses compact icons or dots—for example **project name** and **label names** as chips (subject to your Display settings). * **Overdue** issues show a clearer on-card label in week view (for example how long they’re overdue). ## Switch between month and week **From the UI** 1. Open **Display** in the top bar. 2. Under **Calendar view**, choose **Month** or **Week**. **From the keyboard** * **M** — month view * **W** — week view ## Move through the calendar **Today** * Click **Today** in the toolbar, or press **T**. **Toolbar** * In **month view**, the arrows move the calendar **one screen** vertically (same idea as paging up/down). * In **week view**, the arrows move **one week** left or right. **Arrow keys** | View | Previous | Next | | ----- | -------- | ---- | | Month | ↑ | ↓ | | Week | ← | → | ## Top bar reminders Alongside **Display**, the top bar includes **Filter**, **Sync**, **Today**, **Share**, and your account menu—so you can narrow issues, refresh from Linear, jump to this week, or share your current setup. ## Task cards and Display options LinCal calendar view screenshot What you see on each card depends on **Display**: * toggles such as **status**, **labels**, **project**, and **assignee** apply in **both** views; * **month view** keeps cards compact (often **icons** or small dots); * **week view** uses more **written detail** on the card when those options are on. Click a task card to **open it in LinCal** for quick edits (or use your usual shortcut to open the issue in Linear in a new tab, if you use that flow). **Overdue** issues are highlighted on the card. ## Issues without a due date The **no due date** section at the bottom lists issues that don’t have a due date yet, so you can still see and work with them from the calendar screen. # Creating Issues Source: https://docs.lincal.app/using-lincal/creating-issues Create new Linear tasks directly from within LinCal. ## Create a task from a date LinCal - Create Task Overlay 1. Hover a day cell and click **New Task**. 2. Enter the task title and press **Enter**. 3. Select a team if LinCal asks you to (this step may be skipped when your filters already imply a single team). 4. On the **Task Properties** step, optionally set: * Assignee * Project * Labels * Cycle 5. Optionally add a **description** (short field in the panel, or expand it for more room while you write). 6. Use **Create task**, or **Cmd+Enter** (Mac) / **Ctrl+Enter** (Windows/Linux) to create. **Esc** cancels from the title step. ### Notes * Tasks are created in Linear and appear on the date you picked. * If your filters already narrow to a single team, LinCal may preselect that team and move you past team selection after the title. ## Edit a task 1. **Left-click** a task card on the calendar to open **Task Properties** in LinCal. 2. To open the issue in **Linear** in a new tab instead, **Cmd-click** (Mac) or **Ctrl-click** (Windows/Linux) the card. 3. Change title, assignee, project, labels, or cycle. Updates **sync to Linear automatically** (there is no separate **Save** step). 4. Use **Open in Linear** in the panel (or **Cmd/Ctrl+Enter** when suitable) when you need the full Linear issue—including long descriptions, attachments, comments, etc. 5. **Esc** closes the panel. ### Notes * This flow is for quick property updates from the calendar. * Changes sync back to Linear. * Click the task identifer to copy the Linear task link ## Change status from the task card LinCal - Change Task Status 1. On the task card, click the **status** control on the left. 2. Pick the new status from the menu. 3. The card updates right away. ### Notes * Available statuses come from the task’s team workflow in Linear. * This is the fastest way to move work between states from calendar view. # Drag and Drop Source: https://docs.lincal.app/using-lincal/drag-and-drop Reschedule issues quickly by dragging and dropping them on the calendar. ## Move a task to another day Drag and drop screenshot 1. Click and drag a task card. 2. Drop it on a different day cell in the calendar. 3. LinCal updates the due date immediately in Linear. ### Notes * Only the due date changes. * Day cells highlight when they are valid drop targets. ## Remove a due date 1. Drag a task card to the bottom bar: **Tasks without a due date**. 2. Drop it there. 3. The task is updated to have no due date. ### Notes * Use this when a task should stay unscheduled. * You can expand the bottom section to review all unscheduled tasks. ## Tips * Use **Today** to quickly return to the current week before dropping. * Overdue tasks can be rescheduled quickly with drag and drop. # Filtering Source: https://docs.lincal.app/using-lincal/filtering Filter issues in LinCal to focus on the work that matters most. ## Open filters Filter menu screenshot * Click **Filter...** in the top bar. * Use **⌘K** (or **Ctrl+K**) to open filters quickly. * Use the search field to find filter options fast. ## Available filter types You can filter by: * Teams * Projects * States * Assignees * Labels * Cycles ### Notes * Team options are grouped into **Your teams** and **Other teams**. * Label filters support grouped labels and **No Label**. * Assignee and project filters include **No Assignee** and **No Project** options where relevant. * Cycle filters include semantic options like **Current** and **Upcoming** when available. ## Manage active filters * Active filters appear as chips next to the filter button. * Remove a single filter value with the **x** on its chip. * Click **Clear all** inside the filter menu to reset everything. ## While filtering * The calendar updates immediately as you select options. * Hovering a filter chip highlights matching cards and dims non-matching cards. * Selected filters are remembered for your account/workspace, so your view stays consistent between sessions. # Open links in desktop app Source: https://docs.lincal.app/using-lincal/openlinksinapp Open Linear issues from LinCal directly in the Linear desktop app instead of the browser. If this is enabled in Linear, clicking a Linear issue link in LinCal will open in the desktop app (for the same workspace) when possible. Filter menu screenshot ## Enable in Linear 1. Open linear.app in your browser. 2. Go to Settings. 3. Open General preferences. 4. Scroll to Desktop application. 5. Turn on Open in desktop app. ## What to expect * When enabled, issue links from LinCal open in the Linear desktop app. * If the desktop app is not installed or not available, links open in the browser. * This behavior is controlled by Linear’s setting, not a separate LinCal toggle. ## Troubleshooting * Make sure you are signed into the same workspace in both LinCal and the Linear desktop app. * Confirm Open in desktop app is enabled in Linear settings. * If links still open in browser, restart the Linear desktop app and try again. # Plans & billing Source: https://docs.lincal.app/using-lincal/plans-and-billing Who needs a LinCal subscription, how trials and billing work, and how to manage your workspace plan. # Plans & billing LinCal subscriptions are billed **per Linear workspace**. One subscription covers your whole workspace at a **flat rate** — not per-seat. You’ll subscribe or manage payment inside LinCal. *** ## Overview | | | | --------------- | -------------------------------------------- | | **Billed** | Per LinCal / Linear workspace | | **Seat model** | Flat workspace price (not priced per member) | | **Payment** | In-app checkout and billing portal | | **Who can pay** | The workspace **billing owner** (see below) | *** ## Who needs a LinCal subscription? Your workspace needs an active LinCal subscription when **all** of the following apply: 1. **Your workspace is on a paid Linear plan** 2. **At least two people use LinCal for that workspace** If those conditions are **not** both met, you can use LinCal for that workspace **without** a subscription. *** ## Trial The first time your workspace becomes subject to the rules above, LinCal starts a **trial** (by default **7 days** from when the trial is recorded for that workspace). During the trial you have full access. When the trial ends without an active subscription, access to the calendar is blocked until the workspace is upgraded. *** ## Team plan & pricing Lin Cal Upgrade Modal The paid offering is the **Workspace** plan: one price for the **entire workspace**. * **Monthly** and **annual** billing intervals are available; pick the interval in the upgrade flow. * **Authoritative amounts** (including tax and currency as applicable) are always shown **at checkout** when you subscribe in the app. If you need a quote for procurement, use the totals shown in checkout or ask [Support](/support) (or your usual LinCal contact). *** ## How to upgrade Lin Cal Upgrade Button 1. Sign in to LinCal with your Linear account. 2. When your workspace requires a subscription, follow the in-app **upgrade** flow. 3. Complete payment on the checkout page. After a successful purchase, your workspace should have access again (you may need to refresh or return from checkout as prompted). Guests on a workspace cannot complete checkout; a full workspace member must subscribe (see **Billing owner**). *** ## Billing owner Payments and many billing-management actions are tied to a single **billing owner** for the workspace: * The first user doing the upgrade is turned into the billing owner * The **billing owner** can **Manage billing** via a link in the user menu. * **Other workspace members** should ask the billing owner to subscribe or update payment. *** ## Managing your subscription After you’re subscribed: Manage billing * Use **Manage billing** from the account menu in LinCal to open the **customer portal**. * There you can typically update payment details, view invoices, or cancel the subscription. *** ## Cancellation You can cancel from the billing portal. Your workspace **keeps access until the end of the current paid period**. After that, if a subscription is still required for your workspace (paid Linear + enough members), you’ll need to subscribe again to restore access. *** ## Past-due payments If a renewal fails, your subscription may be marked **past due**. LinCal allows a **grace period** so you can update payment before access is interrupted. If payment isn’t fixed in time, access can be blocked until billing is successful. If you’re blocked, use **Manage billing** (if you’re the billing owner) or ask the billing owner to update payment. *** ## Need help? For billing or access issues, contact **Support** or email [rolf@lincal.app](mailto:rolf@lincal.app?subject=LinCal%20Support%3A%20Billing). # Recents and Favorites Source: https://docs.lincal.app/using-lincal/recentsfavorites Use Recents and Favorites to reapply filter combinations in one click. When you build a filter setup (for example Team + Cycle + Assignee), LinCal remembers it in Recents so you can quickly return to it later. Star a combination to keep it pinned as a Favorite. Filter menu screenshot ## Reuse a recent filter combination 1. Open Filter. 2. Go to Recents. 3. Select a saved combination to apply it instantly. ## Star a combination 1. Apply the filters you want. 2. In the filter list, click the star icon on that combination. 3. It appears in your favorites so it is always easy to access. ## Notes * Recents help you jump back into work without rebuilding filters. * Favorites are best for views you use every day. * If no filters are set, LinCal defaults to showing work from your own teams. # Share Calendar View Source: https://docs.lincal.app/using-lincal/share-calendar-view Share a filtered calendar view with your team via a link. Anyone who opens the link sees the same filters and display options you configured — and the calendar stays up to date as issues change in Linear. ## How to Share 1. Set up your filters (teams, projects, assignees, labels, cycles, or statuses). 2. Adjust display options if needed (weekends, sub-tasks, completed, card properties). 3. Click **Share** in the top-right of the display menu. 4. Click **Copy Link** and paste it wherever you want — Slack, Linear project descriptions, Notion, team wikis, etc. LinCal Share Linear Calendar ## What Gets Shared The link includes your filters and display options: * **Filters**: Teams, projects, statuses, assignees, cycles, labels (any combination). * **Display options**: Show weekends, show sub-tasks, show completed, and which properties appear on cards (status, labels, project, assignee). Recipients see the same view you configured. ## Important Details **Recipients need Linear access.** This is not a public link. Anyone who opens it must be signed in to LinCal with access to the same Linear workspace. Your data stays in Linear. **The link stays live.** It is not a snapshot. The calendar reflects current data from Linear whenever someone opens it. **Works after login.** If someone opens the link while logged out, they'll be prompted to sign in. After signing in, the shared view is applied automatically. ## Use Cases For examples of how teams use share links — team calendars, cycle views, project stakeholder views, and content calendars — see [A Shareable Calendar View for Linear App](https://yes.lincal.app/blog/a-shareable-calendar-view-for-linear-app/) on our blog. # Sync Behavior Source: https://docs.lincal.app/using-lincal/sync-behavior How LinCal stays in sync with Linear and when data is refreshed. ## Actions Sync Instantly When you make changes in LinCal — creating a task, dragging to reschedule, updating status, assignee, or other properties — those changes are sent to Linear immediately. The UI updates right away (optimistic updates), and Linear is updated in the background. If a change fails, you'll see an error and the affected area will refresh from Linear. ## When Does Data Refresh Automatically? You usually don't need to press Sync when you're actively using the app: * **After each action** — Creating a task, editing one, or dragging it to a new date triggers a refresh of the affected area (that month, or the tasks-without-due-date list). * **When scrolling back** — If you scroll to a month you haven't viewed in over 5 minutes, that month's data is refreshed when it becomes visible again. * **When returning to the tab** — If you've been away for 5 minutes or more, data refreshes automatically when you come back. **When to use Sync:** Use the Sync button when you've been viewing the calendar without making changes and want to pull in the latest updates from Linear or your teammates. ## What Happens When You Scroll The calendar loads data **on demand** as you scroll: * Tasks are fetched **per calendar month**. * When you scroll into a new month, that month's tasks are loaded when the first day of that month enters the visible area. * Previously loaded months are cached for about 5 minutes, so scrolling back is fast. This keeps the app responsive while you move through the calendar. ## Manual Sync Use the Sync button in the display menu to refresh all data at any time. The button is disabled while a sync is in progress. # Task Loading and Visibility Source: https://docs.lincal.app/using-lincal/task-load-visibility This page explains how LinCal decides which tasks to load and display, and why some tasks might not appear. ## What gets loaded ### Calendar (tasks with due dates) * Tasks are loaded **per calendar month** as you scroll. * Only tasks from your **selected teams** (or your teams by default) are fetched. * All matching tasks for that month are loaded (no hard limit). ### Tasks without due date (bottom bar) * Only tasks **updated in the last 2 months** are loaded. * Older tasks without due dates do not appear here. ## Why a task might not show up 1. **Team scope** — By default you only see tasks from teams you’re a member of. Select more teams in the filter to see others. 2. **Display filters** — Status, project, assignee, cycle, or label filters can hide tasks that match the load criteria. 3. **Completed / sub-issues** — If “Show completed” or “Show sub-issues” is off, those tasks are hidden. 4. **Tasks without due date** — Only tasks updated in the last 2 months appear in the bottom bar. 5. **Per-day limit** — Each day shows up to 4 tasks; the rest are under the “More” button. 6. **Weekends** — If “Show weekends” is off, weekend days are hidden. # Load Linear Views Source: https://docs.lincal.app/using-lincal/views Use your Linear views in LinCal. LinCal can load issues from views you already use in Linear. ## What views appear In the **Views** filter, you may see: * **Personal views** — your private Linear views. * **Workspace views** — views shared across the Linear workspace. * **Team views** — views attached to a specific Linear team. Select that team first to see its team-specific views. ## Use a Linear view 1. Open **Filter...**. 2. Select **Views**. 3. Choose a view. LinCal uses the view definition from Linear and places matching issues on the calendar by due date. ## How views behave * Issues with due dates appear in the calendar. * Issues without due dates appear in **Tasks without a due date** if they were updated recently. * Selecting a view clears project, status, assignee, cycle, and label filters. * Access follows Linear permissions. If you can see the view and its issues in Linear, LinCal can load them.
